Muruku Making Village to be listed as Perak's Tourist Destination

Nutty Tourism Venture

IPOH: Buntong’s Kampung Kacang Putih, the village famous for making muruku and other Indian tidbits here, may soon be listed as one of Perak’s tourist destinations.

Perak Tourism Action Council general manager Rahmad Ithnin said they had agreed in principle to a proposal from businessman B.K. Kumar to promote Kampung Kacang Putih as an attraction.
Kampung Kacang Putih residents are nut traders who moved from Gunung Cheroh to Buntong in 1974. Forty families are now involved in the tidbits cottage industry.

Rahmad said they would discuss the proposal with Agriculture, Agro-based Industries, Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan.

“Kacang putih – toasted, steamed or deep fried peanuts – can be a new addition to our efforts to promote food tourism overseas,” he said after visiting the village here yesterday.

Besides promoting the village in trade and food exhibitions, the council would also include Kampung Kacang Putih in special tour packages, featuring Gua Tempurung, the Royal Belum reserve and Taiping Zoo's Night Safari.
