Packages Promote Terengganu Tourist Spots

KUALA TERENGGANU: A hundred new holiday packages have been drawn up to introduce Terengganu as a popular destination for domestic and foreign visitors in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2007.

State Tourism Board director Mohd Amirul Rizal Rahim unveiled his ambitious plan to promote the state as a preferred destination at a dinner for local media hosted by the board recently.

“There will be new tourism products in which we will work closely with 94 tourist agencies here,” he told guests, who included Terengganu Press Club chairman Ayob Mamat.

Mohd Amirul said that two of the products involved a tour of the boat making industry in Pulau Duyong and the batik and songket manufacturing facilities here.

“The introduction of the holiday packages are also part of the board’s preparation for the Visit Terengganu Year in 2008,” he said.

He said priority would be given to promote the cluster of beautiful islands here as well as Pulau Bidong where an underwater gallery - a first in the country - would display an exhibition of the time when Vietnamese boat people lived on the island.

Mohd Amirul said the board would also hold discussions with the state to encourage it to offer special discounts on bookings made via local tour agencies.

He thanked the media for their continuous coverage of the board’s tourism campaign.
Ayob in his speech reciprocated by thanking the board for organising the dinner.
He urged the media to help make VMY 2007 a success.

“We should play our role in promoting our country to foreigners.
Ayob urged state agencies to render assistance to the local media in this regard.
