ONLY a handful of travel trade members in Kelantan utilise Tou-rism Malaysia’s official portal “Virtual Malaysia” to promote their activities online.

Outgoing Kelantan Tourism Malaysia director Lijah Othman said not many industry players in the state linked up to the portal to sell their products and services.

She urged hotels, travel agents as well as product and service providers to use the facility for their own good.

“We are now in an era where everything is available on the In-ternet including marketing and promotions of products.

“Yet, travel trade players here are not promoting their products effectively through our portal.

“Although they have their websites, many of them do not have any link-up with Tourism Malay-sia’s portal. Most of their websites are not updated as well,” she said when opening the networking exercise between travel trade members and local media in Ke-lantan recently.

Lijah, who will be posted to Tourism Malaysia’s e-learning operations in Putrajaya from March, urged tourism industry players to link up to Tourism Ma-laysia portal to cash on the Visit Malaysia 2007 campaign.

She urged those in the industry to promote Kelantan effectively.

“You must package your pro-ducts attractively to lure not only domestic but also foreign tourists.

“The state government has now realised the immense potentials that tourism can bring to Kelantan and it is therefore important that travel trade members work closely with the state,” Lijah said.

She believed that the state go-vernment had now realised the immense potential that tourism could bring to Kelantan.

“Travel trade members must work closely with the government,’’ she said.
