You’ve experienced fast food, now how about indulging in fast spas?
Danai Spa will soon introduce the “Danai Dash” concept at several major commercial districts and city centres in Malaysia this year.
Managed by Crigen Resources Sdn Bhd, the urban spa concept will be the first of its kind in the Malaysian spa industry.
“We started out by establishing the northern region’s first garden spa 2½ years ago under the name Danai Spa,” director Cynthia Tong said in an interview.
“Danai Dash is a new and unique business plan which caters to those constantly on the go. We want to provide outlets that are easily accessible to those who want to be pampered but do not have the time for long spa sessions.”
Tong, who said the first urban spa outlet would be set up in Penang, was also scouting for a suitable location in Kuala Lumpur.
She said while Penang-based Danai Spa was more of an exclusive brand, Danai Dash was more sassy and fun.
Last year was a busy year for Crigen Resources as Danai Spa entered into several partnerships and joint ventures with hotels and commercial outlet operators.
“We had our first hotel outlet at Copthorne Orchid Hotel (Tanjung Bunga) back in 2005. That was very successful and paved the path for us to be the consultant for Gem Island Resort & Wellness Spa in Terengganu last August.
In 2006, an outlet catering mainly to the business community was set up in Highway Auto City in Prai.
Danai Spa currently operates five spas in the country - Danai Spa, Merai Spa and Spa Villa in Penang, Century Danai Spa in Cameron Highlands and Gem Island.
Two new outlets will be set up in Penang by year-end in Bukit Jambul and Tanjung Tokong.
Tong said a major re-branding exercise would also be carried out this year.
“We have engaged a branding consultant and are in the midst of re-naming the spas and introducing a distinctive ‘Danai’ identity so that all our outlets will have a standardised look, quality and feel,” she said, adding that RM50,000 to RM100,000 had been allocated for the project.
This year, the company is also planning to expand its Cameron Highlands outlet.
“Century Danai Spa at Century Pines Resort currently has three rooms but, by the end of the year, we hope to have eight treatment rooms and an outdoor jacuzzi that overlooks the lush green hills. Century Danai is really special to us because it is the only outlet that uses natural spring water,” she said.
Tong said most of the products used in the massages and scrubs were prepared and packed at the company’s own facility to ensure quality.
“Most of the ingredients are local herbs and spices we can easily source. By packing and developing these ourselves, we can constantly create new concoctions for the use of all our outlets. This also ensures consistency.”
