KUALA LUMPUR: Things are starting to bloom for the Floral Parade on Saturday at Persiaran Perdana in Putrajaya as participants have finalised their designs and have begun pasting petals in place.

The parade, highlight of Flora Fest 2007, will feature 18 floats and 19 marching bands, the largest number of participants to date.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is one of the hot favourites to win the float parade as it had won the Premier Trophyin 1994, 1997 and 1999.

This year, DBKL has adopted the theme Rhythm of Harmony to match the Flora Fest 2007 theme, Colours of Harmony.

“Rhythm of Harmony goes hand-in-hand with the Flora Fest theme as it promotes love and unity. The float will be infused with elements of music because music can reach out to everyone, irrespective of race or religion, and hence create a symphony of harmony,” said DBKL’s Architecture and Special Projects Department acting director Abdul Rahman Abdullah.

After the 8am parade, the floats will be displayed for public viewing at an air-conditioned tent until Monday.

Along with the other contestants, Flora Fest 2007 organiser Tourism Malaysia will also be showcasing its own float during the parade.
