Etihad Airways lands in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR – United Arab Emirates' Etihad Airways, which made its maiden flight here from Abu Dhabi on January 16, is targeting 70 percent passenger load on this route for its first year of operations.

Etihad's chief executive office James Hogan said this positive outlook was due to Kuala Lumpur's popularity as a business and travel destination among travellers from the Middle East.

For Malaysian travellers they will have easy access to key international trading hubs in West Asia and Europe via Abu Dhabi. Hogan added that the new KL route was set to be one of Etihad's most popular routes.

The airline operates six weekly direct flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Abu Dhabi route, using the 265-seater A340-300 aircraft Kuala Lumpur is the Etihad's fourth destination in the Asia Pacific region after Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila.It is the eighth Middle East airline to fly to KL.

The others are Emirates, Gulf Air, Iran Air, Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Yemen Airways and Kuwait Airways.
