Traders Hotel Penang New CHA Bistro

Traders Hotel Penang proudly unveiled a new concept in dining, CHA, on 24 December 2006.

CHA, formerly known as Shang Palace, is now a casual tea-dining bistro introducing Huaiyang specialities and serving local Chinese favourites.

The interior of the bistro remains unchanged, with its rich gold and black colours, and a touch of maroon for that modern touch. The table settings, however, have been converted into a self-service setting, with cutlery and menu order forms already available the moment guests take their seats. Once guests have chosen their order, the dishes are served as soon as they are ready.

Meanwhile, tea trolleys serve guests eight exclusive or four regular types of fragrant tea, which are brewed immediately and served in seconds.

CHA is the first to introduce Huaiyang cuisine in Malaysia.

Huaiyang cuisine is made from variety of regions in China, including Yangzhou, Suzhou, Changzhou and Nanjing. This style of cuisine is characterised by its emphasis on carving and slicing workmanship, and selected ingredients. Huaiyang dishes are mostly cooked by stewing or braising, thus retaining their freshness and the taste of the ingredients. The taste is not too bland and not too spicy, and each dish usually has a historical story that dates back to the Sui and T’ang Dynasties.

There are 19 Huaiyang specialities among the 63 Chinese favourites in the a la carte menu.

CHA is open for lunch and dinner at the following times:
Tuesday – Saturday 11.30 a.m. – 2.30 p.m. / 6.30 p.m. – 10.30 p.m.
Sunday and Public Holidays 8.30 a.m. – 2.30 p.m. / 6.30 p.m. – 10.30 p.m.
Closed on Mondays
