KUALA LUMPUR - National carrier Malaysia Airlines is unfazed with the launch of AirAsia X, the new long-haul low-cost airline that was unveiled with much publicity here last Friday.
MAS said it is confident that there is room for both a full service airline and a long-haul budget carrier in Malaysia.
It added the concept of long-haul low-cost travel is already available via Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, which began operating Hong Kong-London-Gatwick flights in October last year.
Analysts said that AirAsia X will create a new market segment i.e. budget travellers and as such will not encroach MAS' long-haul routes that target high yield passengers and business traffic.
