ENTERING into its second year, the two-day Miri Jazz Festival to be held from May 11 and 12, 2007, organised by Sarawak Tourism Board, is expected to draw a crowd of 2,000 per night, doubling last year's audience. It will be held at the Pavilion, ParkCity Everly Hotel in Miri City, the northern tourist hub of Sarawak.
The festival's chairman, Mr Michael Lu, who is also an executive at Sarawak Tourism Board, said: "About 30 per cent is expected to be visitors from neighbouring Brunei, as the border is a mere half-hour minute drive from the city. This year's event will also see a special charter flight bringing 144 Koreans for the festival."
The festival will boost hotel occupancy to the high 70s, with the two main hotels, the four-star ParkCity Everly Hotel and the city's only five-star hotel, Miri Marriott Resort & Spa, experiencing full occupancy, Mr Lu said. Miri city has 1,174 rooms of three- to five-star ranking.
