Raffles Hotel Singapore celebrates 120 years of legendary hospitality

Since opening its doors in 1887, Raffles Hotel has been home to innumerable writers, Heads of State, dignitaries, celebrities and royalty from around the world. During the Golden Age of Travel, Raffles was the meeting point where globetrotters came in search of the Raffles that "stands for all the fables of the exotic East" so aptly described by novelist Somerset Maugham. Today, Raffles Hotel stands as a jewel in the crown of Singapore's hospitality industry; her inimitable service continues to delight patrons with many memorable experiences.

As the Grand Dame celebrates 120 glorious years of history, traditions and legendary service, an exciting calendar of events will be launched in the coming months. Planned to involve one and all, the array of activities includes a Passport programme that recommends 120 things to do at Raffles Hotel, two luxurious suite packages, shopping rewards at Raffles Hotel Arcade, educational history tours and drawing competition for schools and charity events. The celebrations will culminate in an Open House Gala Reception at the Palm Court in mid-September 2007. It was in September 1991 when the Hotel re-opened after a complete two-and-a-half-year restoration.

Says Mr Robert Logan, General Manager, Raffles Hotel, "The Grand Dame has certainly come a long way, and it is not without her share of prosperity and adversity. Her success today as an international landmark is built upon support from the Singapore community, regular residents and patrons, and the staff whose commitment and passion to exacting service excellence is second to none. We take this opportunity to invite everyone to share this proud moment with us and be part of history in the making."
