Educating Rita at Hilton KL

Hilarious comedy: Atkinson plays Rita while Bennett is Frank. Both are stars on London’s West End.

THE magic of British theatre returns to entertain at a dinner theatre presentation by Hilton Kuala Lumpur and Richmond Productions UK.

The Educating Rita production will be staged at the hotel's grand ballroom on March 30, and will feature Shelley Atkinson as Rita and Clive Bennett as Frank, both of whom are successful stars on London’s West End as well as on British television.

Educating Rita, an award winning comedy by Willy Russell was written for the Royal Shakespeare Company and originally produced in 1980.

Since then it has enjoyed enormous success all over the world and has been made into an award winning film starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters.

Frank is a tutor of English whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to seek refuge in whiskey.

Rita is a forthright young hairdresser who is hungry to “know everything”.

With Frank as her tutor Rita embarks on an Open University course and her education process begins.

Willy Russell’s play gives a hilarious and often moving account of a young woman’s determination to change her life.
