Cultural troupes from several countries will provide an international flavour to the annual World Harvest Festival at Sarawak Cultural Village near here next month.
The Village’s general manager Jane Lian Labang said the troupes were from Ghana, Greece and Lithuania.
She said audiences could expect to be thrilled by their music, dances and cultural performances.
The festival, a major event on the Sarawak tourism calendar, will also feature cultural troupes from the Dayak community.
Formerly known as Gawai Tourism Night, the festival on May 26 and 27 is jointly organised by the state Urban Development and Tourism Ministry and Sarawak Cultural Village.
Ministry permanent secretary Sarudu Hoklai said this year’s outdoor drama play would be on an Orang Ulu legend – Belawan Burieng: The Hercules of Keliman River.
“The legend is of a mighty warrior with 12 wives,” he told reporters after receiving sponsorships for the festival from several companies.
He said other highlights of the festival would be the Miss Fair and Lovely beauty pageant’s grand finals, and the Iron Man contest.
Sarudu said an interactive music and dance workshop would be held at the village’s various ethnic houses
Tickets for a day entrance to the festival are sold at RM50 (adults) and RM25 (children aged six to 12 years). The tickets are obtainable from the village (tel: 082-846411).
