Giving Tourists helpful Guides in Malacca

One of the shortcomings of the local tourism industry is the assumption that tourists know what to do, what to see and how to get around the country, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said.

Adnan said Malaysia had to continue in efforts to sell tourism products and services to tourists although they were already in the country.

“This assumption is a serious mistake that we must overcome and we can do it with knowledgeable and friendly staff, especially those who have direct contact with our foreign visitors.

“People like hotel staff, tourist information officers and even taxi drivers, can suggest to tourists places they should visit, including great eating places, shopping destinations and also inform them about local events,” said Adnan at the launching of the 7th International Malacca Twin Cities Convention here yesterday.

His speech was read by the ministry’s Policy, Planning and International Affairs Division under-secretary Dr Junaida Lee Abdullah.

Adnan said the parties involved could also help the ministry obtain feedback from the visitors as to whether they had enjoyed their visit and if there were any shortcomings the ministry should pay attention to.
