Malaysia sees healthy arrival numbers

MALAYSIA registered more than 3.1 million visitors in the first two months of this year, representing a 9.3 per cent increase over the same period last year.

In February, tourist arrivals totalled 1,518,174, an increase of 9.7 per cent over the same month in 2006.

The top 10 tourist generating markets for January and February were Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, China, Japan, India, UK, Australia and South Korea.

While arrivals for January and February had increased over the previous year, it was still slightly lower than the Tourism Ministry's average monthly target of 1.67 million.

This year's arrivals target is 20.1 million tourists.
