BUKIT MERAH: Perak will soon have a 132-ha eco-tourism resort of international standard on Pulau Banding in Grik.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Tajol Rosli said the project, entrusted to MK Land Holdings Bhd, would be carried out in stages after a series of meetings with several non-governmental organisations.
"We will try to preserve the area’s natural beauty as much as possible by seeking advice from the relevant experts," he said after attending a drift car demonstration on Saturday.
Tajol Rosli said the resort would have 40 rooms, chalets and serviced apartments overlooking the lake.
"There will also be a two-kilometre canopy walk for tourists to observe wild animals throughout the day without disturbing them"
Tajol Rosli said the state government was still in negotiations with the army on areas in the Belum forest, where tourists were allowed to have access, adding that similar talks were ongoing between the Malaysian Nature Society and the Department of Environment.
