PETALING JAYA: The Klang Valley should be turned into a shopping paradise so that tourists will visit the country and spend money, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
He said there should be more shopping complexes to woo tourists.
“We want the tourists to shop, shop and shop until they drop. We want them to spend money,” he said at the official launch of The Curve shopping mall here yesterday, which coincided with its second anniversary.
“This might not be good news for husbands, but it will be good for the economy,” he said.
Najib was proud that the entire Mutiara Damansara development, where The Curve is located, used local talent from design to construction.
“This proves that we have the talent in Malaysia to create some of the best real estate.”
Najib said shopping complex operators should have a strong maintenance culture.
“We have good builders. But when it comes to maintenance, it is not so good. I know of some shopping complexes that started off well but are now lacklustre because people failed to maintain standards,” he said.
Najib later opened the Royale Bintang Damansara hotel situated in The Curve.
