Street Party to Welcome 2007

REVELLERS seeking to usher in the New Year can head to Sungei Wang Plaza for the Street Party Countdown 2007.

Held on Dec 31 at the main entrance of Sungei Wang Plaza, the party is presented by Magnum and organised by CMG, Sungei Wang Plaza, and the Kuala Lumpur Chinese Assembly Hall (KLCAH).

More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the party, which will kick off at 6.30pm with an acrobatic lion dance show.

This will be followed by a colourful cultural dance performance, and a series of capoeira, breakdance and hip-hop dance performances.

The highlight of the celebration will be the Street Party Countdown 2007 Chinese Concert featuring many popular local and international artistes.

The local artistes are Daniel Lee, Lin Yu Zhong, Danny Wan, Nicholas Chung, Andrew Chen Shi An, Anthony Zheng Wei Kang, Johnson Wee, Desiree Tan and Suki, while the international artistes are Jin Sha from China, Ah Du from Singapore and Lam Yik Pong from Hong Kong.

At the stroke of midnight, there will be a spectacular fireworks display and Dance Feat 2007 featuring DJ Daryl B till 2am to usher in the New Year.

“The main road in front of Sungei Wang Plaza (Jalan Sultan Ismail) will be closed from 12.01am on Dec 31, 2006 till 6am on Jan 1, 2007 to cater to the large crowds and stage set-up,” said KLCAH honorary secretary See Kok Meng.

“The good news is that KL Monorail and Rapid KL will be extending their operation hours till 2.30am on Jan 1, 2007.

“We hope the public will cooperate by using public transportation to avoid traffic jams and parking problems, and observe public order,” said See during a press conference to announce the event.

“The carnival activities and cultural performances are specially arranged to showcase our very own Malaysian multiracial culture as well as international dance performances to both Malaysians and foreign tourists alike,” said Sungei Wang Plaza promotions/ public relations manager K.K. Lim.

“The presenter for the party countdown is Magnum, with DiGi as the co-sponsor, while 988 and 8TV are the official radio and television station respectively.

“The celebration is also supported by Tourism Malaysia and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur,” said Lim.

“Magnum has sponsored many fun events like the Project Superstar and Parkson Charity Concert, and we can’t think of a better way to end 2006 and welcome 2007 than with the countdown party,” said Magnum 4D Berhad regional manager Chan Chee Fai.

“The carnival activities, cultural performances, and artiste performances will bring excitement to every person, regardless of race or age.”
