Malacca Bayview Hotel's 20mil Facelift

Made Over to Bring you Over
By Sharon Tan

Ever wished for an invigorating “rain” shower after a day out antique-hunting in Malacca? Or perhaps lying in a Jacuzzi to massage the fatigue away?

Now, at Bayview Hotel, Malacca, you can. The hotel recently underwent a RM20mil facelift and has installed Jacuzzis and rain showers in all rooms except standard rooms.

If you seek more therapeutic water treatments, the hotel has also installed a hydrotherapy spa pool by the swimming pool (on level four). Guests may also take advantage of the sauna and steam room, as well as fully equipped gymnasium next to the pool.

Formerly known as the City Bayview Hotel, the192-room hotel is a popular choice with many travellers and conference organisers as it is located in the centre of historical Malacca (which is less than five minutes’ drive from the Dutch-built ship Stadhuys and antique shops on Jonkers Walk).

Even the lobby has undergone a transformation – glass walls lend an al fresco feel to the place. Artist Kenneth Yong’s glass art pieces can also be seen in the lobby.

The rooms and suites, which offer a view of the town and Straits of Malacca, have also been given a makeover. Beds come with Canadian maple wood headboards and chiropractic mattresses.

The lobby is now brighter, with an al fresco feel to it.

You don’t have to venture far for value meals either. The Palette Café serves a lunch and hi-tea buffet.

If you crave Chinese food, check out the Southern Court Chinese Restaurant which won the Best Chinese Restaurant-Tourism Melaka Award 2005. It offers sumptuous Szechuan and Cantonese dishes.

The daily Teochew Porridge Buffet costs a mere RM12+ for adults/RM8+ for children while the Compose Your Own Menu starts from RM58+ (three main courses, one soup and choice of dessert).

While away the afternoon at Star Cups Coffee Club which offers various brews of coffee and freshly-made sandwiches, pastries and cakes.

After that, head out to the Lobby Lounge to relax with drinks. There’s a pool table there and you can catch up on sports news from around the world. The best feature in this lounge is that Happy Hour is all night long!

You can dance the night away at Xplode Dance Club. Or have fun crooning to your heart’s content at DoReMi Songs Studio.

- Room and suites start from RM190+ onwards. For enquiries or reservations, call (06) 2839 888 or visit www.bayviewhotels.com.
