Royal Town Hosts Tourism Fest
KUALA LUMPUR: Pekan Fest 2007, making its debut in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007, will promote the uniqueness of the royal town and Pahang in general as major tourist destinations.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it was appropriate that Pekan was chosen to host the inaugural festival because of its status as a royal town and also its achievements in the country’s automotive industry.
“Apart from attracting tourists to Pahang, Pekan Fest 2007 will also help the town's economy develop,” he said at the soft launch of the festival here yesterday.
Pekan is the vehicle assembly hub for the Mercedes E Class, Isuzu, Citroen, Mitsubishi, Tata, Eveco and Ssangyong, as well as several military vehicles.
It has attractive tourist spots like the Pahang Museum, Istana Abu Bakar, Craft Gallery and the Pahang Silk Weaving Centre.
“It is hoped that with this festival, we can send the message that Pekan and Pahang are open to new investments in future,” said Najib, who is also Pekan MP.
Pekan Fest 2007 will be held from May 30 to June 3 next year.
