Man held over murder of budget hotel owner’s son

JOHOR BARU: Police have detained a 28-year-old man to assist in investigations over the murder of the son of a budget hotel owner here.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shafie Ismail said the man was arrested at a bank in the city at 2.30pm on Wednesday.

“We believe he is the boyfriend of a 24-year-old woman who was detained earlier and released on bail,” he said.

ACP Shafie urged anyone with information on the case to contact the police hotline at 07-221 2999 or the nearest police station.

He also said police had arrested a gang of seven robbers believed to be responsible for snatch thefts and wayside robberies in the city.

He said the arrests were made after a snatch theft victim took down the registration number of the Proton Wira used by three men who snatched her necklace in Taman Century on Wednesday.

“With the information, we were able to detain the three suspects at a roadblock in Bandar Baru Uda two hours after the incident,” ACP Shafie said.

Initial investigations found that the car was stolen and the suspects, aged between 19 and 28, were using fake number plates.

Police were led to a house in Jalan Bali in Bandar Baru Uda where police arrested four other suspects, aged between 20 and 22, in the 2.30am raid yesterday.
