Retailers at 1 Utama have enjoyed 10% to 25% increase in sales so far this year, thanks to Visit Malaysia Year 2007 (VMY 2007).
Bandar Utama City Centre Sdn Bhd director Datuk Teo Chiang Kok said the outlook for the domestic retail sector was positive, given the boost from VMY 2007.
“VMY 2007 has exposed Malaysia as a global shopping destination,” he said yesterday.
Teo said this at a briefing to announce that 1 Utama had won the Best Retail Category award under the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence International Property Award 2007.
Teo said the award reflected the capability of Malaysian companies in winning international honours, adding that 1 Utama had many notable features, including being constructed as a “green building”.
The shopping complex has employed, among other strategies, a chilled water storage system, rainwater harvesting system and energy efficient layouts and designs.
