The Greatest Tourism Carnival 07 from June 22 to 24 at the Putra World Trade Centre

CRUISE liners will be the new feature at The Greatest Tourism Carnival 07 from June 22 to 24 at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

There is a range of liners to choose from under one roof, from ocean liners and river cruises to condos ships.

Among the liners and cruises to look out for are Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Cruise Lines, Cruise West, Crystal Cruises, Discovery World Cruises, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Norwegian American Lines, Oceania Cruises, Orient Lines, Peter Deilmann Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Silver Cruises, Windstar Cruises, Amadeus Waterways, Orthodox Russian Cruises, Viking River Cruises, The World of ResidenSea and Residential Cruise Line.

The carnival featuring travel destinations worldwide is presented by Malaysia International Travel Mart (MITM) and Asia Pacific Tourism Events (APTE) and organised by the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association and APTE.

Organising chairman Judy Cheah said the consumer fair would bring the best of sea, land and air travel with thematically packaged tour and travel products of Malaysia and the global market.

“This will be the first travel fair that incorporates cruise travels as it sets to bring back the glory days of global cruising towards the vision in making Malaysia a hub for cruising,” said Cheah, who is also the principal and owner of APTE in an interview.

Tagged as the mid-year consumer tourism and travel event, it aptly fits in with the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign.

With more than 350 tourism players including airlines, hotels and resorts, tour operators and travel agents taking up booths, the fair is expected to attract up to 80,000 visitors.

“The fair promises savings of up to 70% to travel destinations with up to RM300,000 worth of prizes to give away,” Cheah said.

Cheah said visitors would be able to participate in the Visitors Contest and Early Visitors Contest.

She said for the Visitors Contest, it is essential that you have your MasterCard at hand at the ticketing counter to win prizes.

There are five prizes with trips to Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Jakarta and Bangkok.

The Early Visitors Contest rewards early birds with additional chances to walk away with goodies such as hotel vouchers, MP3 players and others.

The Buyers Contest is a thank you gesture to visitors who spent RM5,000 in a single receipt at the carnival.

Purchasers stand to win international air tickets inclusive of two first class return air tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane, two business class return air tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and two economy class return air tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong.

Cheah said those who used their MasterCard for purchases had double the chance of winning prizes.

“Every ringgit spent on your MasterCard entitles you to a chance at the MasterCard RM30,000 cash bubble booth and there are free gifts worth totalling RM50,000,” she said.

Cheah who has been an active member of Matta since 1993 has also been its deputy president.

During her tenure, she was a member of Aseanta TASK FORCE for the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) and was also the organising chairman of the biggest travel fair in the history of Matta and was awarded the prestigious Silver Jubilee Award Achievement of Excellence 2000 for creating a new milestone for Matta and earning a place in the Malaysia Book of Records.

The fair at Halls 3, 4 and 5 will take place on June 22 from 10am to 9pm and June 23 and 24 from 9.30am to 9.30pm.
