VISITORS to the upcoming Penang Matta Fair at the Penang International Sports Arena (PISA) in Penang can look forward to free flight tickets, courtesy of Firefly – Malaysia’s first community airline.
A total of 120,000 tickets to the airline's destinations will be given away to visitors at the Firefly booth, Firefly managing director Eddy Leong said.
The tickets exclude taxes, fees and surcharges, and are for one-way travel.
“As a Penang-based airline and the official carrier for the fair, we are delighted to offer these free tickets to Penangites as a way of thanking them for their support.
“This is Firefly’s first promotional campaign since our launching in April and we are going all out to reward our passengers,” Leong said.
He said the airline would also offer discounted fares of up to 50% and special online promotions to all destinations on its website (www.fireflyx.com.my) in conjunction with the fair from June 29 to July 1.
“The special online fares begin from as low as RM9.99 to Lang- kawi, RM29.99 to Kota Bahru, Kuala Terengganu and Kuantan, and RM39.99 to Koh Samui and Phuket.
“In addition to the free tickets and cheap fares, we are also sponsoring 40 flight tickets for the fair’s lucky draw sessions,” he said.
The fair’s organising chairman Ann Tan said this was the first time in the event's history that so many free tickets would be given out.
“To celebrate the country’s 50th year of independence and Visit Ma-laysia 2007,1,500 special goodie bags with exclusive merchandise will be given away at 5pm every day of the fair. This is in addition to the usual door gifts.
“This year we have a record number of 291 booths and had to turn many exhibitors away as we wanted to make sure visitors could browse in comfort,” she told a press conference on Monday. Also present were MAS northern region area manager Wan Mohd Ebrahem and Firefly Penang hub manager Audrey Yu.
Tan said 73 organisations including tour agents, non-governmental agencies and tourism bodies would participate in the fair which will be open from 5pm to 9pm on June 29 and from 10am to 9pm on June 30 and July 1.
She said the fair was expected to attract about 41,000 visitors.
Entry is RM2 for adults and free for children below 12.
“Visitors can expect value-for-money packages and lots of special promotions,” Tan added.
