Many Indonesians are high-end tourists

MALAYSIANS must stop regarding Indonesian tourists as second-class visitors as they are the second-biggest contributor to Malaysia’s tourism sector after the Arabs, Makkal Isai reported.

Deputy Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Government was stepping up Visit Malaysia 2007 promotions in the republic.

“Many of these Indonesians have high incomes and we should regard them as high-end tourists. We should not have the wrong conception that they are coming to work in Malaysia,” he told the Malaysian media before joining a motorcycle convoy on their Tour De Indonesia 2007 programme.

He said this promotion was important as most Indonesian visitors tended to visit only places like Kuala Lumpur and Genting Highlands, as they were not aware of other tourist spots in Malaysia.

He said that last year Malaysia received 1.3 million Indonesian visitors and the Visit Malaysia 2007 campaign targeted 1.5 million of them.
