Beaches dirty due to Malaysians lackadaisical attitude

THE lackadaisical attitude of some Malaysians towards cleanliness despite the numerous campaigns has caused the beaches of Penang and in other states to remain bad, Makkal Osai reported.

Many beaches had rubbish and dirty water, leaving a poor impression on visitors, both local and foreign, Penang Development, Tourism and Environment Committee chairman Teng Chang Yeow said.

He was asked to comment on complaints by West Asian tour agencies to Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on the dirty condition of beaches in Penang and Kota Kinabalu.

Teng, who was speaking to reporters after opening the night market at Campbell Street, Penang, said that if Malaysians wanted more tourists to visit the country, they must keep tourist destinations clean.
