KUALA LUMPUR, WED:
AN audit is carried out every three years to ensure hotel operators maintain their standards. Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Donald Lim told Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (BN-Bintulu) that the audit included a review of the Orchid and Stars ratings given to hotels in the country.
"The ratings were awarded to the hotels based on the services offered. The ratings served as a yardstick for the hotel industry and as a guide for tourists.
"However, if we find during the auditing that their service falls short of expectations, we downgrade their ratings or rescind it," he said. He said during the three-year period, the ministry could also take action against the hotels if there were complaints.
