MAS retains KL-Stockholm-New York service

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airlines will retain its service to Stockholm and New York (Newark) service in support of Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

The airline had earlier announced it would case operations on the KL-Stockholm-New York route after January 15, 2007. MAS managing director/CEO, Idris Jala, said the decision to discontinue the route was based on findings from its route profitability exercise.

However, strong calls by both the Malaysian and Swedish governments and the countries' travel trade industry have led to this reversal decision.

He added that MAS is in "active discussions" with a few trans-Atlantic airlines to develop links with cities into the US east coast via Amsterdam.

Meanwhile, the airline will increase the use of its existing share option with KLM for the KL-Stockholm sector to increase connectivity between the two cities via Amsterdam.
