Flora Fest to kick off VMY 2007
KUALA LUMPUR – Visit Malaysia Year will have a "flowery" start with the two-week flora extravaganza, Flora Fest, which kicks off on January 20.
The fest's highlight is a grand floral parade, "Colours of Harmony", on January 27 in Putrajaya. Throughout the fest period there will be a series of flora-related events that include a "florathon" in Kuala Lumpur.
Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, said the fest would also showcase Malaysia's rich tropical flora and fauna, a potential major tourist attraction. About 1.7 million foreign tourists are expected to come for the flower festival.
Target tourist arrivals for VMY 2007 is 20.1 million tourists. A total of 50 major and 240 minor events has been planned for this special year.
