1.45 Million Tourist Arrivals to Malaysia in July

Tourist arrivals to Malaysia numbered 1,450,319 for the month of July 2006, a 10.1% increase from last year’s July figure of 1,317,276.

This continues the positive trend of registering more than one million visitors per month.
Cumulative tourist arrival figures (from January until July 2006) stand at 10,014,540, a 5.6% increase from last year’s figure of 9,485,074 for the same period.

During the month of July 2006, Brunei performed the best with a sharp growth of 181.8%.

Meanwhile, double-digit growth was recorded for arrivals from Russia (78.5%), South Africa (42.1%), Indonesia (31.9%), Canada (29.0%), West Asia (25.3%), Italy (23.0%), France (20.4%), USA (20.1%), Scandinavia (16.5%), India (16.2%), Germany (13.2%).

The top ten tourist generating markets until July 2006 were Singapore (5,509,191), Thailand (1,191,733), Indonesia (694,639), Brunei (372,921), China (208,474), Japan (193,463), Australia (161,999), India (160,523) the United Kingdom (147,291) and South Korea (104,670).
