SHANGHAI - Counting on its good diplomatic ties with Mainland China, Malaysia is pressing ahead with its Malaysia Truly Asia 2007 campaign that kicks off on January 1. Datok Ir Donald Lim Siang Chai, deputy minister, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia said that 2007 would be a pivotal year for attracting the Chinese market, as it launches its campaign in a big way.

The NTO will be visiting 25 cities on a country-wide road show working in synergy with its offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. The campaign is also in conjunction with `Malaysia Celebrating 50 years of Nationhood’, with a line –up of festive activities throughout the year that would attract visitors.

Lim said that its targets for the ambitious campaign are 600, 000 in 2007 and 420, 000 in 2006.

Since Malaysia and Mainland China would also be working on more air access between the two countries, new flights expected for launch would also help to boost the destination’s attraction.
