Swine Flu Update in Singapore

SINGAPOREAN travellers' confidence in Europe-bound tours is still generally strong despite incessant news reports on the swine flu virus crossing Mexican borders into Spain and Britain, according to SA Tours.

Yesterday (April 30), a group of some 30 travellers, made up largely of honeymooners, departed Singapore on a 16-day tour around Europe. The tour will cover Germany, France, the UK, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Austria and Liechtenstein.

SA Tours spokesperson, Ms Ruth Lim, said some of the travellers called the agency days prior to the trip to make sure it would not be cancelled because of the virus threats.

Ms Lim said: "All of them remained upbeat about the trip and wanted it to happen. To be cautious, the tour leader distributed hand sanitisers to all the travellers and also had digital thermometers ready."

Another group of some 20 travellers will depart for Europe on the Labour Day holiday today.

Ms Lim added: "Some groups are in Europe now, half-way through their trip, and none have decided to cut short their holidays. It is a good show of confidence."
