Tourists from China like to visit Malaysia

Malaysia remains a popular choice for tourists from China, with many of them making repeat visits.

“We are one of their destinations besides Taiwan and Singapore,” Tourism Malaysia China Market Advisory Council member Datuk Tan Jing Nam said.

He said the Chinese had no problems with food and other things in Malaysia.

They would return to visit as they found it easy to move around because there was no language barrier, he added.

Tan, who is Tanco Holdings Berhad group managing director, was appointed to the council last year.

He was talking to the Malaysian media here while accompanying Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor on a week-long promotion trip to China.

The other members include Lion Group chairman Tan Sri William Cheng (council chairman), Kerry Group’s Tan Sri Robert Kuok Hock Nien and Hua Zong president Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong.

Tan said the council had forwarded to Tourism Ministry its suggestions on attracting the Chinese.

“We have a lot to offer. But there are also a lot we need to improve,” he said.

There are about 30 million Chinese travelling abroad for holidays each year and the number was expected to increase to about 100 million by 2010.
