Tourism Malaysia to resume Urumqi - KL Flights for Tourists

Tourism Malaysia is working with travel agents in (Urumqi) China and Malaysia to resume chartered flights between Urumqi and Kuala Lumpur.

Such flights were established last year between the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China and Malaysia's capital through cooperation between Malaysia-Beijing Travel Services Sdn Bhd and a travel agency in Xinjiang.

However, they were discontinued due to low loads.

The region's vice-governor Kurexi Maihesuti said Malaysia remained an important destination for tourists from Xinjiang.

“According to statistics from the local tourism administration, 80,000 people (from Xinjiang) travel abroad for holidays,” he said.

He said the authorities here would encourage the local people to choose Malaysia as their holiday destination.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor said Tourism Malaysia was working towards having more people from the Chinese region to visit Malaysia and vice versa.
