The island was the first stop of their 10-day visit to the country under Tourism Malaysia’s Make it Malaysia (MIM) programme.
A kompang troupe and cultural dancers were among those welcoming the Chinese visitors who arrived in three separate flights from Guangzhou, Shang-hai and Chengdu.
The group was invited by Tourism Malaysia to experience the culture, food and tourist attractions in the country.
Also at the airport to welcome the visitors was Tourism Ma-laysia International Promotion Division Assistant Director Effendy Mat Yaman.
According to Penang Tourism Action Council events manager Ashwin Gunasekeran, the team would be staying in Penang for three days before leaving for Bukit Gantang in Perak on Thursday.
They will experience a homestay there and continue their visit to Genting Highlands and Kuala Lumpur.
“Other than meeting local travel agents, they will also participate in activities such as a treasure hunt and city tour,” he said.
