World- Class Plastic Surgeons Meet In KL for Asian Breast Aesthetic Symposium (ABAS)

A selected group of 60 world-class plastic surgeons will meet here next month for the first Asian Breast Aesthetic Symposium (ABAS) to address issues involving advanced surgical techniques and practice in breast surgery.

The two-day symposium beginning Nov 5 will see presentations by five leading cosmetic breast surgeons from Asia and around the world, including renowned consultant plastic surgeon Dr Charles Randquist from Sweden.

The programme will feature Dr Randquist performing a series of procedures for symposium delegates to witness live surgery.

ABAS secretariat said in a statemement today that the symposium's goal is to help surgeons achieve better results with lower complication and reoperation rates.

"It is a unique and focussed symposium providing a platform for Malaysian and international plastic surgeons to share experiences, challenges and interact in open discussion," the statement added.

The statement said Asia's medical tourism industry is expected to be worth at least RM14 billion by 2012, and it has been estimated that the high quality health care in Asia is attracting more than 1.3 million tourists a year to India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

Malaysia has earned a reputation as one of the preferred destinations for medical tourism by virtue of its highly efficient medical staff and modern health care facilities.
