Sabah Tourist Arrivals Up

Sabah's tourist arrivals in the first six months of the year increased by 0.3 per cent, as compared to the same period last year.

State minister for tourism, culture and environment Datuk Masidi Manjun said that with the current economic slowdown, overall tourist arrivals to Sabah this year was forecast at 2.23 million.

This, he said, would be able to contribute RM4 billion to the state coffers.

In the last 10 years, tourist arrivals increased by 20 per cent annually. Of this figure, about 40 per cent were repeat arrivals.

Speaking at the Borneo Bird Festival here today, Masidi said the state government would give emphasis on the tourism industry and the Sabah Development Corridor.
