Find New Ways to Boost Tourism
By FARIK ZOLKEPLI
JOHOR BARU: The state tourism department has been urged to get rid of its old strategy of having campaigns on an adhoc basis.
S. Ramis (BN - Kahang) said the department should adopt new ways to lure tourists to the state including putting up giant billboards along the North-South Expressway depicting popular tourists spots.
“Why is there no research on other interesting tourist spots in the state?” said Ramis, adding that new initiatives need to be taken to lure the 12 million expected visitors to Johor next year.
He also suggested that the tourism action committee look at promoting agro-tourism as not many people knew about the uniqueness of our rainforests in the state especially the Endau-Rompin National Park.
Ramis also said that a special committee should be set up to boost the socio-economic status of residents living around the tourist spots.
“We are tired with the excuses given by the district tourism action committee as so far nothing has been done to improve tourism in the state,” said Ramis.
