SHOPPING is an important component in the tourism industry as 20% of tourist expenditure is centred around this activity, said deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Donald Lim.
He said in 2005, shopping contributed RM7.7bil compared to RM6.6bil in 2004 in Malaysia.
“For this year end we are hoping to see an increase of 10% from last year’s figure.

“We hope more retail outlets will do promotions to attract shoppers
“With Visit Malaysia year next year, we aim to attract some 22 million to the country to enjoy the rich culture and heritage and shopping,” said Lim during the launch of “Your Sweetest Christmas Ever” programme and the MasterCard PayPass Christmas Cottage at Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 4.
