Batik Fair Among 240 Events for VMY 2007

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur International Batik (KLIB) Convention & Exhibition 2007 will be one of the 240 events lined up for Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said his ministry would be working on the event with Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia, led by Nori Abdullah, daughter of the Prime Minister.

The event, he added, had been slotted for between Nov 30 and Dec 2 next year.

“Based on the encouraging turnout for KLIB 2005, I am confident that the coming event will draw even more.”

He was speaking yesterday at the launch of the KLIB 2007 Convention and Exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here by the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid.

Tengku Adnan said batik-making demonstrations had always been part of the programme when his ministry held promotions overseas.

He noted that next year was an important one as the country would be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Independence.

“We will be inviting people from around the world to come and see the unique qualities that have shaped Malaysia into the country it is today.

“We would like to our visitors to associate Malaysia with batik, which is a very important part of our culture and heritage,” he added.
