Travel advisory for Malaysians planning Bangkok trip

Malaysians living in Bangkok and those planning to go there have been advised to take necessary precautions, following the state of emergency imposed by the Thai Government.

Malaysian ambassador to Thailand Datuk Husni Zai Yaacob said a curfew between midnight and 6am Thursday has been imposed.

"At the moment, the situation is calm. The military is trying to persuade the protestors to leave the business district area," Husni said when contacted Wednesday night.

The redshirt protests have been going on for the last three weeks and turned for the worse yesterday when protesters stormed parliament building, forcing Cabinet members to flee.

Husni said the embassy was monitoring the situation and has not received any distress calls from any Malaysians.

"However, I advice Malaysians to avoid areas where the protests are taking place and monitor the situation through any available channel," he added.

Malaysians who have any queries can contact the embassy at 66-2-629 6800.
