Tourist destinations should retain their uniqueness to attract foreign tourists to the country, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said.
She said this was apart from efforts to attract tourists by organising world class activities and programmes and tourism promotions.
"Travel agency STA Travel UK named Malaysia the cheapest of eight holiday destinations worldwide while Lonely Planet put Malaysia among the ten best countries to visit," she said at the ministry's excellent service award 2009 and Innovation Day 2010 here on Thursday.
Ng's text of speech was delivered by Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit.
She urged ministry staff to attract more tourists to visit the country and to upgrade knowledge and skills.
"We have to cooperate to meet the 20 million tourist arrivals targeted. It will be great if we can exceed the target," she added.
