Firefly eyes 1.2 million

FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines (MAS), expects to carry 1.2 million passengers this year, thanks to the seven new ATR-72-500 aircraft to service the routes.

Managing dierctor Eddy Leong said Firefly carried about 300,000 passengers from January to May this year.

“We expect that by the third or fourth quarter, the traffic will be much higher with the flights to Singapore,” he said in a interview.

He said Firefly planned to provide hourly shuttle flight service to Penang and Singapore from April next year when it had 10 aircraft in operation.
