Packages to boost tourism in Sarawak

Two new products will be launched next year to boost Sarawak’s tourism potential.

State Urban Development and Tourism Minister Datuk Michael Manyin said the Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebrations would be the state’s latest additions to provide tourists a real experience of the celebrations.

“Villages and longhouses within a two-hour drive from Kuching will be selected as products,” he said, adding that tourists attending the celebrations would experience the rituals and ceremonies practised by locals.

“They will get a chance to taste food and drinks available only during the festive seasons,” he said in his winding up speech in the state assembly here.

“Joint packages involving the Sabah Keamaatan Festival will be launched later and promoted overseas,” he added.

On a proposal by Andy Chia Chu Fatt (BN – Pujut) to construct bicycle lanes along main roads and in residential areas, Manyin said the idea was impractical.

“We need to consider the practicality of bicycles in our hot and humid climate,” he said, adding that motorcycles and cars were more popular
