The Golden Age for travelling

She has not even stepped into her new office yet but Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen has one programme in mind.
Golden Third Age, or G3A, the name she would borrow from the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, would be used to encourage senior citizens to holiday locally.

"I have been thinking about how Malaysian tourism can provide for them," she said after launching the "G3A: Ang-gun & Sihat" programme on Saturday.

It was her last function in the ministry before taking up a new portfolio as tourism minister.

This programme aims to increase senior citizens' awareness on health, social life and financial security.
Dr Ng, who turned 63 on Friday, was given a surprise birthday cake with her portrait by her former staff in the ministry and the National Population and Family Development Board.

Present was her husband Dr Chin Chee Sue.

On senior citizens and local tourism, she said: "They can travel because they have a lot of time."

She said senior citizens should travel during the low season as the expenses would be lower.

"They can enjoy the holidays as the country has good weather. Maybe we can give them up to 50 per cent discounts on tourism packages."
