Apart from food, drinks, hotels and restaurants, the ninth biennial exhibition will also showcase equipment, supplies, services and related technology.

It will feature key players in the industry, both locally and internationally and include various brands like Boncafe, D&S Exports, Eurochef, Lee’s Frozen, Lucky Frozen, Nestle Hong Kong - Nespresso Division, Unilever Food Solutions, USA Poultry, Hyperlux International Limited, Hotel Information System and Luen Heng Agency.

Occupying about 7600sqm of space, the event will feature 600 exhibitors from 30 countries. A total of nine groups from Austria, Belgium, Egypt, India, Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Taiwan will be present to promote their home-grown products.

Japan will also be joining in for the first time.

MES general manager Alun Jones said the exhibition was 20% bigger than FHM 2005.

“Due to the overwhelming response for FHM 2005, we will have an additional hall at level 3 of the convention centre.

“The event can also be seen as a cultural exchange through the food and hospitality industry,” he said.

In conjunction with the exhibition, there will also be the fifth Malaysian International Food Processing & Packaging Technol-ogy Exhibition and the Culinaire Malaysia 2007, the region’s largest culinary competition.

Culinaire Malaysia organising chairman Cheah Swee Hee said the competition first started began in 1993 with 300 participants but this year; there were some 1105 participants.

He said the competition has progressed tremendously and had achieved regional and international recognition.

It showcases 30 classes of competition with new additions such as the Truly Malaysian Challenge, Chinese Cuisine Challenge, Dress the Cake, The Dream Team Challenge and Battle of the Chefs.

“It is endorsed by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) and there will be 41 renowned local and international judges, some of whom have been judges at the Ika Hoga Culinary Olympics,” he said.

FHM 2007 will also play host to the Asean Food Congress and the WACS Asia Pacific forum.
