Renovation of The Saujana’s first phase to cost RM60mil

THE Saujana has major plans to rebuild the Club wing into The Club, an all-suite estate featuring 78 Club Suites.

Managed by General Hotel Management, the signature GHM style will be evident once work is completed in the middle of next year, positioning The Club at The Saujana as one of the best resorts-in-the-city for business and leisure travellers.

The cost for the first phase of the renovation works will be approximately RM60mil.

The renovation works will not affect the remaining room blocks, restaurants, main lobby and function rooms.

The Club at The Saujana will feature stylish interiors with larger suites ranging from 80 sq m to 180 sq m.

Even better soon: Herbert with The Club’s new layout.
Once completed, the exclusivity of the Club Suites will be apparent with services such as personal butlers, a spa, a restaurant and a private swimming pool.

Complimentary limousine transfers, Continental breakfast and drinks are also included for the Club Suite guests.

Each Club Suite is designed to overlook tranquil ponds or landscaped grounds within the hotel’s premises.

Lavish bathrooms will also feature sunken terrazzo bathtubs, private lavatories with bidets, large walk-in wardrobes and luxurious shower cabins.

The Club at The Saujana will be a five-star resort with Club Suites priced between RM2,000++ and RM5,000++ per room, per night.

“The Club will create an environment reflecting the premium quality products in the area,” the hotel general manager Herbert Laubichler-Pichler said.

“Malaysia is strategically located and with the global tourism industry growing, this will be the start of many more tourists to come.”

Herbert said preparations for the construction period had been carried out and that during the construction period, The Saujana would not be operating at a loss.

Saujana's Cocktail reception fans the FI fire

THE F1 fever has hit town and is further heightened by the event's cocktail reception at RP Entertainment Centre in The Saujana Kuala Lumpur.

It was held for guests and corporate clients.

F1 fever: Guests enjoying the drinks and food.
Banners of the race to be held in Sepang Circuit from April 6 to 8 were hung on the walls while video clips of past races were played on the giant screen. There was also a video clip in tribute of seven-time world champion Ferrari ace Michael Schumacher who retired from the sport at the end last season.

Sepang F1 Circuit sales and sponsorship manager Izuddin Rosli presented a slideshow on the irresistible deals on tickets of various categories to the guests, among them hotel general manager Herbert Laubichler-Pichler.

Sepang F1 sales representative took ticket and discounted packages orders from the guests. Guests later tucked into a sumptuous spread as waiters served free-flow of soft drinks and beers, sponsored by the hotel. The coffee by Nepresso Coffee was also a hit with many.

The night’s event proceeded with a fashion show by I. Kartini, a boutique taking after name of owner Kartini Illias.

As the lights dimmed, models gracefully stepped on stage parading batik-inspired creations of evening wear, smart casual attires, as well as traditional sarongs and shawls.

Batik-inspired: The models parading the I. Kartini evenings wears.
With boutiques in Suria KLCC and Alamanda Putrajaya, Kartini produces her own batik and designs and turns them into high-end, contemporary ready-to-wear garments.

Besides women’s wear, she also designs men’s apparel like shirts and ties.

According to public relations manager Jasvin Sidhu’ the fashion show is put up in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007 to expose the beautiful batik to local and international clients and as a way of supporting local designers.

“The hotel would be working on more future events with Kartini,” she added.

A lucky draw session added merriment to the reception as guests eagerly waited for their names to be called.

Casual: Herbert (left) and Izuddin sharing a light moment during the slideshow presentation.
Prizes include F1 grandstand tickets, golf balls and the hotel’s Kogetsu Japanese Restaurant dining vouchers.

There was more partying as RP’s resident band, Retrospect, took centre stage belting out R&B, jazz, and other evergreen numbers.

Many stayed on until 10pm as they sat on the sofas, listening to the music and chatted away as others went around making ticket inquiries and purchasing tickets.

Saujana's Going green to Save Money

The hospitality industry has waded into the fight against global warming with energy-saving efforts that will see a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

A number of hotels in the country have already made efforts to conduct energy audits to see how they can save on fuel costs.

Last year, the Saujana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, managed to reduce its annual fuel costs by about RM500,000 by replacing its aging chillers, water heaters and air-conditioners with new energy-efficient ones.

More recently, an energy audit on Hotel Seri Pacific in Kuala Lumpur revealed that it could save up to RM880,000 on fuel costs if adjustments were made.

The move would also cut carbon dioxide output by 470,960kg.

Although the savings sound large, Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO) vice-president Ahmad Kamil Adnan said many hotels were hesitant about making the changes because they would have to fork out money first.

“In the end, it is about the money. In these times when money is tight, no business is going to spend money for what they see as nothing in return.”

In the case of Hotel Seri Pacific, RM4.85mil needs to be spent to retrofit all the necessary equipment and it would take a little more than four years before the hotel sees real savings.

The hotel, however, is going through with the project, according to general manager Jean F Wasser, because it would make it more competitive, with the goal of maintaining an average room rate of RM200.

Ahmad Kamil said other MAHO members were aware of the need to be energy efficient but needed more cost-justification.

“The Government needs to be do more in terms of providing incentives. For example, we have been trying to lobby the authorities to give hotels their own set of electricity tariff rates and not charge us commercial rates but it has not been successful.”

According to energy consultant Ramvir Sharma, a mere 10% cut in Malaysia’s carbon dioxide emissions would roughly translate to savings of about 760 million litres of fuel that is burnt annually.
