RM90mil budget to boost tourism in Perak

RM90mil budget to boost tourism in Perak

IPOH: Perak is planning to spend RM90 million over the next five years to boost its tourism industry.

Of the amount, RM74 million will come from an allocation under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, while the State Government will contribute the rest.

"Among the projects are a 80-bed hostel in Bukit Larut which will cost about RM2 million," said Perak Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry, and Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Radzi Manan after hosting a dinner for media representatives in Genting Highlands yesterday.

Bukit Larut in Taiping, said Radzi, is an attractive highland destination but it lacks accommodation.

The council will also hold a tourist fair and workshop for travel agents in Kunming, China from Nov 29 to Dec 3.

"We want to promote Perak in the largest tourist market in China," he said. The Kunming fair comes after the successful Perak Fair, which included a health tourism promotion in Medan, Indonesia early this year.
