Sabah Tourism to Improve Tourism - Complaints from Japan and South Korea

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has asked the Sabah Tourism Board to help improve the sector’s frontline services in the state.

He said the ministry had received several complaints from foreign tourists on the unsatisfactory service.

“The complaints were made to me through the travel agencies when I was on a week’s visit to Japan and South Korea recently,” he told reporters after the closing of the 14th Lepa Regatta here recently.

He said the Japanese and Koreans loved to visit Sabah as they liked the local food, besides the natural attractions the state offered.

In view of this, the ministry would be organising a food festival in Japan and South Korea soon to attract even more tourists from these two countries to Sabah, he added.

Tengku Adnan also said that in the first two months of this year, tourist arrivals in Sabah increased by 9.3% from the figure for the same period last year.

On the National Water Festival, he said Semporna would be able to host it in two or three years’ time.

“But certain things have to be done fast like upgrading the jetty to facilitate transport of tourists to islands off Semporna like Sipadan,” he said.

He said this year’s National Water Festival would be held at Pantai Puteri Melaka on May 4.
